Important religious center from XIth century, located 22 km. south from Rousse. There are unique frescos from 13th-14th century.
The monastery rock complex was inhabited in 13th and 14th century, and some of the churches were opened by the end of 17th century. The site is a part of the world cultural heritage, protected by UNESCO.
