It was erected in 1933 by patriots from Rousse and relatives of the killed. Prof. Atanas Dudolov designed it. The sculpture was made of concrete, as the funds were scarce. In 1943, the memorial was blown up by a pro-fascist organisation. It was reconstructed in 1966, under the design of A. Dudolov, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Russophile officers’ riot. The statue and the battle scenes were restored by the sculptors Nikola Terziev and Georgi Radulov.
