The monument is structured as a pyramid, with a quadrangle base with stairs on the front side leading to a granite pillar with a pedestal and a three-steps footing. The bronze statue of Freedom stands on the pillar. That figure of a woman is 3.75 m tall, with a sword in her left hand, her right hand pointing far ahead. Alto-relievos on the four sides of the pedestal depict crucial moments of the Liberation War. The statue is guarded by two lions, one clenching a torn chain and the other – guarding a sward and a shield reading “Freedom”. The main inscription reads: “To the heroes and the volunteers who fought for Bulgaria’s liberation in 1867-1977”.
