The initial opening ceremony of this museum was on 01 January 1904 when it was just a museum collection of Prince Boris I Boys’ High School. In 1937 it grew into a city museum, in 1949 it was made a state museum, and in 1952 it was given the status of a regional museum, its functions covering the regions of Rousse, Razgrad and Silistra. Over 116,000 exhibits are kept in its fund.
